DJing

I’ve been slacking a bit when it comes to DJing land picked it up this year again. Some of my mixtapes are on a part of my blog that’s not syndicated, but I set up a page with all the posts. I just posted a new one today. If you have no plans tonight and you’re in Berlin, come to the GNOME3 Launch Lounge (Facebook event page) in c-base tonight. I’ll be playing there as well....

Berlin

Earlier today I went to a goodbye party of a friend who’s going to Australia for a few months. Great things that happened: Party was outdoors, a few DJs played, great atmosphere, 100+ people at peak times Some of my awesome office mates were there, my sister too The police showed up and instead of shutting the party down, they told us where it was “OK” to have the party We moved all the equipment, the generator, drinks and everything else to the new place, which was nearby, everybody helped I played a 4 hour Drum’n’Bass set, which I (and others) were very happy with, they even collected money for the DJ - glad it was dark, so nobody could see if I was blushing I watched the sunrise by the riverside while the party was still going on I drove home on my bicycle A few guys stopped me to take a picture of them and as a thanks offered me their last beer Oh how I love this city!...

Audio Help Needed

Some people might have realised the lack of new mixtapes in my blog already. The good news: I still like music, I still like Drum’n’Bass and I still like DJing. The bad news: recording got more difficult. Up until now I used a small python I script I wrote to record the mixtapes. It basically just wrapped around gst-launch-0.10 pulsesrc ! queue ! audioconvert ! vorbisenc ! oggmux ! filesink location=<somefile>...

Google Juice

It seems that my mixtapes turn up very early in the results when you’re searching for “drum’n’bass mixtapes”. I just hope the listeners are as happy as the page rank suggest. :-)

Thanks for the Hugs

It’s not just about the flash hug, but more general: UDS and FOSSCamp have been absolutely brilliant - the best we ever had. It was great to meet lots of the brilliant people of various communities and have fruitful discussions all day and all night. Lots of hugs too. If I disregard the dose of Ubu-flu I got myself, I feel completely powered up and ready to get new efforts started during the Intrepid cycle....

The Drum'n'Bass diaries are back

The Drum’n’Bass diaries are back. It took me from June 14th to December 3rd to post a new mix tape and in the meantime a lot happened: there was my road trip to Greece, the release, UDS, AllHands, etc. I never really gave up on Drum’n’Bass, I even bought new records, but I didn’t record as much in the evenings. Some weeks ago I bought a new Hi-Fi System and some days ago new cables and everything, so I’m all set again....

L.U.X. again

I’ll play in Berlin’s L.U.X. again on Friday. I look forward to it quite much and the line-up looks quite promising. Seems I was wrong about one thing…

Holy Cow

Since Matthias ‘doko’ Klose and my brother have been good at leaking the story, here my few words on it. Michal, the organiser of the “Cargo Cult” parties in Berlin’s L.U.X. called me some days before my birthday party and told me who’d be around on that night, as he’d be on vacation and told me gigglingly, that they had chosen a “birthday DJ name” for me. Of course I asked what the name was… all he said was “You’ll find out soon enough....

New Category

I started a new category in my blog (which is not aggregated), so 1. I don't annoy random Planet readers with names of Drum'n'Bass tracks, 2. [my provider](http://www.net-lab.net/) doesn't kill me for transferring gigabytes of mixtapes :-)

Birthday party

I’ll have my birthday on January 16th and since it’s in the middle of the week, I’ll have my party on January the 20th in Berlin’s L.U.X., where I’ll also be playing that night. If you plan to come, please drop me a quick line.

My first time

Last night I played (as a DJ) in a club for the first time in my life. It was bloody brilliant. L.U.X., the venue is a cozy place with a nice atmosphere. Some weeks ago I asked the owner if I could play there and he pointed me to the organizer of Drum’n’Bass parties at his place. Michal, a friendly, dreadlocked Drum’n’Bass fanatic didn’t ask many questions but said “Sure, how about in two weeks?...

The Amen Break

I just found an incredible documentation about the “Amen Break” - a nearly 40 year old sample almost everybody knows and recognizes. For me as somebody who’s crazy about Drum’n’Bass it was most interesting to hear about the history of 6 seconds of music that changed today’s Pop music. It’s not only about the sample, but also about intellectual property as it’s seen and legally enforced today without caring about stifling creativity and enrichment of culture....

Berlin nights

DJ Patife paid a visit to Berlin and to celebrate the looong weekend, I really wanted to go there. So I met up with Matthias and had a good time at Il Casolare - an amazing pizzeria just right at the Planufer in Kreuzberg. After being watered and fed, we brought home Murphy and went straight through the Görlitzer Park to the Watergate. Having been there before, I really looked forward to it - it’s a nice location with a very nice view on the Spree and when the big Universal logo on the other site is lit in different colours on the night, it reflects on the water - I need to take a picture of that....
