Another special day in Berlin

It’s another Bug Jam day in Berlin. As all of you know we meet in Berlin’s c-base (did you see the video from the people who decided to have Maemo Summit there?)

  • every 2nd Tuesday in the month and
  • every 4th Thursday in the month

from 17:00 to 20:00 local time and have fun working on bugs.

This time we’re going to pick a like 10 bugs off a couple of lists each and make sure we work through them as a team. Any suggestions?

WANTED: Help with Interviews

James Westby, Jorge Castro and I were just talking about Ubuntu Developer Interviews. Wouldn’t you just love it to learn quickly and regularly about new exciting features that are happening? Learn more about the developers themselves and maybe even how you could get involved and join in on the fun?

I have just a very few, very quick questions to you, please add a comment to the blog if you have an answer:

  • Which interviews would you like to see? Your favourite features? Your favourite developers?
  • Would you like helping out with doing interviews?
  • If you run a podcast, would you like to be notified about new interviews and re-do them in audio? Do you think it’s a good idea?
  • If you run a news site, would you like to be notified of new interviews?

Send in comments! 🙂

https://launchpad.net/~5-a-day

I just made the ~5-a-day team in Launchpad restricted and removed everybody but the people who worked on the 5-a-day tools in the past. Since version 0.43 joining the 5-a-day in Launchpad is not necessary any more, as everybody pushes to their own branches anyway. The 5-a-day team was not renamed to “5-a-day developers”.

Here the instructions on how to join in on the fun:

  • add the 5-a-day PPA to your sources list
  • sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install five-a-day
  • bzr launchpad-login <LP Login Name>
  • 5-a-day --add <bugnumbers>

So don’t consider yourself “thrown out”, this is a security measure, since up until now everybody on the (formerly open) team could just have uploaded to the PPA. Thanks for Michael Casadevall for pointing it out to me.

Keep up the good work, keep on 5-a-day’ing!

Bug Jam in Berlin!

It’s time for another Bug Jam again. Today we’re going to meet again at c-base and have a great time triaging bug reports and help fixing some issues in intrepid. If you can’t make it this time, no problem. Since last month we meet:

  • every 2nd Tuesday in the month and
  • every 4th Thursday in the month

from 17:00 to 20:00 local time.

Never triaged bugs before? No problem, we’ll show you how.

Can’t bring a laptop? No problem, c-base has Ubuntu PCs which we can use.

So what’s going to happen today? I’m going to propose to triage bugs with patches attached. There’s a big mass of bugs that have workarounds and patches attached. Some of them lack documentation or a link to the upstream commit or some of them probably won’t apply against the latest version in intrepid.

We’re currently discussing how to best deal with this kind of reports on the ubuntu-devel@ list. Whatever the outcome is, we’re going to benefit from patches and bugs that were triaged.

I hope you come in masses. This is a great opportunity to get involved.

My 5 today: #280806 (tomboy), #279207 (swfdec0.6, swfdec-gnome), #190688 (firefox-3.0, gnome-terminal, synaptic, tsclient, inkscape, thunderbird), #262246 (nemiver), #281841 (devscripts)
